How to Program Your Chevy Garage Door Opener

A black Chevy Silverado 2500HD is parked in front of a garage.

At Gordon Chevrolet, Inc., we’re here to guide you through the process of programming your Chevy garage door opener using the convenient Homelink system. This user-friendly feature allows you to seamlessly connect your vehicle to your garage door, gates, and even your home lighting system. Let’s dive into the step-by-step instructions to make your life easier and more integrated in Livonia.

Understanding Homelink

Homelink is a wireless control system built into your Chevy, offering a safe and efficient way to activate your garage door opener and other radio-frequency-controlled devices. Before we start the programming process, ensure your vehicle is close to the garage door opener you want to program.

How to Program Your Chevy Garage Door Opener with Homelink

Follow these easy steps to synchronize your Chevy’s Homelink system with your garage door opener:

  1. First, clear existing codes. To do this, press and hold the two outer Homelink buttons until the indicator light flashes (approximately 20 seconds). This action resets the system by erasing any previous settings, ensuring a fresh start.
  2. Program the Homelink button. Position your vehicle within range of the garage door opener.
  3. Hold your garage door remote close to the Homelink buttons in your Chevy.
  4. Press and hold the desired Homelink button and the garage door remote button simultaneously.
  5. Release both buttons once the Homelink indicator light changes from a slow to a rapid blink.
  6. Some newer garage door openers require an additional step to synchronize. Consult your garage door’s manual to determine if this applies to your model.
  7. If needed, press the “learn” or “smart” button on your garage door opener unit, then within 30 seconds, press and hold the programmed Homelink button in your Chevy for two seconds.
